good place for a market

now, i am not turning my back on my hometown market (the west side market), but i found the pike place market pretty amazing. i had been there before but never taken time to really look around. although there are a lot of tourist trap stands and shops that have sprouted up with the popularity of the market, i was really impressed with the actual food stands. the attention to detail and presentation is something i have never before seen at a market. it makes complete sense. one of the defining factors of a meal is presentation, so why not make that a defining factor of the components of that meal? what results is amazing. i love you west side market but take some notes from pikes place on the subject of presentation.

this picture is a repost for me. it is from a trip to mountain high last year, but it highlights a point i really noticed while in both colorado and utah. bottom line, there are way too many people trying to "go pro". i understand it is really fun to watch all the hours of footage from your killer day lapping the resort, but seriously do you watch that much of your own riding to justify having a camera mounted to your head? even better question, what are you doing with this footage? are you that good that watching your own run is way better then say watching a legit professional in a legit professionally filmed movie? are you critiquing your own riding? looking for errors in lines, looking to improve? beats me... all i am worried about is a internet meltdown crash due to the increasing uploading of go pro videos, if i am not able to watch funny youtube videos like this...

spent last weekend at the dew tour catching up with some old friends and watching a bunch of kids do amazing things in the air. the event was at snowbasin, by far one of the nicest if not the nicest resort i have ever been to. we are talking marble in the bathroom and chandeliers in the cafeteria, no joke. at any rate, enjoy the pics, the event was great and the course was amazing thanks to the snowparktech crew.

have some new stuff out there in corduroy magazine. this is something rome/holden/ashbury/afewotherradbrands rep pete harvieux put together, not for a big pay check or any pay check for that matter, just for the love. just to let people know that cool stuff does go down in the midwest in the snow, skate and art world. thanks to pete for doing this, because i am not sure anyone else would. got a few shots in there, if you can get your hands on a copy check it out, if not, follow the corduroy blog and realize people do cool things all over the place and more often then not make the best of what they have.

i get asked every now and again about traveling, how to deal with 15 hour flights, funny food, etc... i also get asked about what i bring with me, so i thought i would make a list of my travel "must have" list...

G9: a great camera. a fantastic mix of your favorite point and shoot and your pride SLR, all the settings and functions without the bulk. you can set it on automatic for grandmas birthday and at the same time you can set it totally manual shooting in RAW to capture that early morning sunrise. like i said, a great camera that I do not like to go anywhere without. and by the way i am way behind the times, canon currently is on the G11... its like 2 better then the G9, or maybe just the newest version (no doubt with some upgrades). check out more HERE

iPhone: wow, where do i start? between helpful aps that do everything from show you around to tell you the snow conditions not to mention the iPod part of the equation which allows me to bring music, podcasts and even videos on long plane rides and even longer airport layovers. check out more HERE, as far as content check HERE, HERE and HERE

watch: i love accessories. i am still wearing the same pants i bought 5 years ago, i cannot tell you the last time i bought a t-shirt, but i have a different watch for every day of the week. my preferred brand is nixon. always stoked on the styles, the function and the price (unless you are going super high end). see everything nixon has to offer HERE

magazine: as much as i would like to say that I read lots of books, truth is most of my reading gets done on the pages of magazines. the books i love are usually short stories, a magazine is a monthly refilling bucket of short stories and i love them. i guess i need to get an iPad then i can put my music, podcasts, movies, books and magazines on one thing. i will keep you posted. some of my favorites HERE, HERE and HERE

moleskine: i have a bad memory. that is a fact. the good part is, i know this and i do not try to deny that. the moleskin helps me remember, everything and anything. this is something that i do not want to replace with an iPad or iPhone. i love writing something down pen to paper and the process alone helps me remember. there are a lot of great little notebooks out there i just happen to use moleskine. check them out HERE

base camp bag: pack light, it’s sometimes really hard to do especially in the winter, but something that should always be strived for. the base camp duffle from the north face is a happy medium. it allows you to pack a few extra pairs of socks while still being able to toss the bag on your back. as much as rollers are great, when you are on the road, planes trains and automobiles, being able to throw something on your back is always helpful in my opinion. plus the bag is relatively waterproof for all those times it does not get to sit shotgun in the truck. all the sizes HERE

my good friend tim just entered into a new venture. complete with a kick ass truck tim has taken his culinary skills to, well the street. i was lucky enough to show up on day one of this new venture and was throughly impressed about what tim was able to whip up out of the back of a truck, especially seeing as i have a hard enough time cooking in a stationary kitchen. i ate lunch with a large group and everyone was completely stoked with the outcome. i myself went (on tim's rec) with the pork belly sandwich. thick cuts of pork belly, cucumbers, cilantro on a homemade ciabatta bread roll somehow all tied together by spicy peanut butter... absolutely amazing. nothing like eating stuff that tastes and seems like it came out of a fancy restaurant, but out of the back of a truck. make sure you keep posted on the whereabouts of the truck and stop by for a bite, check it out here.

girl talk kicked off his tour in cleveland last night and i was lucky enough to attend. i am not sure he is really doing anything original or groundbreaking, but there is no debating the fact that he is doing something fun. he is an entertainer and it is a stage show with some great music and i am not taking anything away from his skills as a dj because some of the mash ups he comes up with are amazing. bottomline if you want a great time and a good show, give girl talk a look... in the meantime enjoy some pics...

kinda a funny place, never seen a city so clean and friendly, a little too friendly... just kidding. in all honesty it was true midwestern values through and through, pretty impressive this day and age. i recommend a visit, people will greet you with a smile and start a conversation just to say hi.

had the opportunity to go see the OKC thunder play while i was on my road trip thanks to mike winger for the fantastic seats and the amazing evening. it is always awesome to see a professional team in a small market, the fans are usually the most dedicated, crazy, in-to-it folks you could hope for, see any of my packer game posts for more evidence. at any rate, it was a great game, got to see a win, a backwards half court shot from the mascot, a proposal during the "kiss cam" and some good basketball. enjoy the pics.

road trip part 4

after preforming one of the hardest tasks of my life(see below post), i set off towards my next destination, texas. with an evening stop in clayton, new mexico a blip on the map where a big day is "going to a town that has a walmart", i headed out early in the morning to continue the trip. it was a pretty perfect start to things, leaving the hotel turning the key and starting the truck to one of my all time favorite songs and then being greeted by an amazing sunrise, not a bad way to start the day.

from there it was into west texas, which in my opinion is a photog's dream. so many cool settings, so many great vistas and so few people, i loved it. took a ton of photos here are a few, enjoy.

after a great weekend back home in cleveland, i headed back to oklahoma city to pick up the truck and head towards the rocky mountain state of colorado. 11 hours later i was there to complete one of the hardest tasks of my life. driving to colorado only to leave the state less then 24 hours later. no snowboarding, no hiking, no illegal pete's... editor's note (i have conceded to the fact that i made a terrible decision in ever leaving the state and in truth hope to one day be back). at any rate, here are some pics... hope you enjoy.

sitting in an airport now having just finished up part 1/2 on the work related road trip. not much to report, believe it or not, i was actually doing work so i was not as able to take my time and stop for photo ops... oh well, listened to a lot of xm and even found a few new songs that i have since bought while sitting in the airport taking advantage of free wifi. and oh yeah, got some work done as well.
at any rate, here are a few more pic from along the road. stay tuned to next week when we explore what the hell is between oklahoma city and denver and then go into further depths about what one can find on the road in between denver and austin... stay tuned folks, it might get weird.

on the road for my big kid job. as many of you know, photos do not pay the bills so i have a regular job that does. currently driving through the midwest for said job. although i have driven through the midwest before i have not really had reason to stop besides the essential gas/bathroom/food stops. turns out there are some cool things in the midwest, some strange things as well... enjoy
